Harry Moser, President of Reshorenow.org, brings us a one hour webinar on the critical subject of bringing manufacturing back to North America. W. Edwards Deming’s 14 Points from “Out of the Crisis” are core to process improvement. Yet, few companies have implemented Deming’s 4th point: “End the practice of awarding business on the basis of price tag. Instead, minimize total cost.” This oversight has enabled the current medical supply crisis, where there is a 90-95% dependence on imports. The lesson is clear: shorter supply chains are stronger and more competitive. Companies that buy any imported products or services would be more profitable if they implement TC (total cost) – quantifying the 15% to 25% of “hidden” costs (wastes) that are ignored when just considering price. Recognizing these costs will bring back 20 to 30% of what is now imported.
